Enrichment Curriculum

A rich and varied curriculum

One of the most important parts of education is to provide as broad an experience as possible…from visiting historical buildings such as museums, castles and country houses delving into the past and finding out lots of exciting facts and stories about our ancestors, to the thrilling outdoor adventurous activities available right on our doorstep like paddling, hiking, climbing and mountain biking, to name just a few.

That is why at the Outdoors School, we dedicate 20% of the curriculum to our Enrichment programme, giving our learners the opportunity to explore and experience new environments whilst building confidence, self-esteem, life skills, knowledge and understanding of the world around them. We are passionate in our vision that learners need to be provided the opportunity to apply their skills and knowledge from the classroom in real-life scenarios and contexts, in order to create lifelong skills and build a rich understanding of society, culture and ethics. Our Enrichment Team supports our learners by developing a rich and varied programme full of adventure and creativity.

What a fantastic way to encourage and support learning.

Enrichment News

Along with an array of exciting activities and locations visited this term, the highlight for some, was the first of The Outdoors School Residential Programme. Our Year 9 and 10 learners embarked on their very first school residential and for many of them, it meant staying away from home for the first time. From Dartmoor to all the way in South Wales, it was incredible for us to see how our learners thrived, building confidence, self-esteem and making memories that will last a lifetime away from home.
We have had another incredible term of fantastic adventures in and around our beautiful Devon countryside. In addition to activities such as swimming, paddling, miniature golf and walking, our curriculum has also included a number of visits to historical locations where learners have had the opportunity to delve into the past and find out lots of exciting facts about the stories of our ancestors. The Golden Hind Ship, Saltram House and Buckland Abbey being a few of the most popular.
